Football Development Program 12-14 Years Olds

At this stage of development we can forge a love for the game that will last a lifetime. By exposing players to an effective and enjoyable football (soccer) program tailored perfectly to their desires and expectations.

In addition to the skills developed in the Football Skills Program which must be further developed, players in this age group are ready for more complex game situations.

Players are now much more responsive to collaborative practices with other players, this is an age group in which team play is learned easily.

Program Content:

Developing Game Intelligence In Attack.

  • The positional attack (building up from the back): its start and progression
  • Keeping possession of the ball
  • Attacking from the midfield
  • The 2v1 situation
  • First-time play
  • The counterattack
  • Intelligent passing
  • Correct techniques and tactics in receiving and controlling the ball
  • The capacity to play through passes
  • Finishing
  • Attacking under pressure

Developing Game Intelligence in Defense. 

  • Individual defending: Approaching and closing down the ball carrier
  • Cover
  • Pressing
  • Anticipation
  • Defending under pressure
  • Defending counterattacks

Developing Individual Game

Football Skills Program 10-11 Year Olds

This stage is considered by many to be the ‘ golden age of motor learning’. Players are now striving for good performances. They can show a real dedication for continuous improvement and are very motivated to practice hard and showcase their abilities to other team-mates or teams.

In addition to the skills developed in the Football Basics Program which must be further developed, players in this age group are ready for more complex game situations.

Playing football involves understanding how the game develops in order to make good decisions.

Reading and Reacting Skills – ability to observe and analyse the location of team-mates, opponents and the ball as well as the speed and direction of play will be developed in each of the Three Basic Game Situations.

  1. Loose-Ball Games: The ball is loose and neither team has it. Statistics have shown that the team that wins the most loose balls usually also wins the game.
  2. Attacking Games: The team has the ball in possession and attacking.
  3. Defensive Games: The team doesn’t have the ball and is defending, preventing the opponent from scoring.

Football Basics Program 7-9 Years Old.

At these ages we continue to expose children to additional motor activities and introduce them to a great variety of fundamental technical-tactical situations of football. 

Before we do that we must take into account the significant characteristics and needs of children in this age group. 

Because they are egocentric, very few children in this age group are capable of successfully playing team games. Every player likes to be the centre of attention and tries to keep the ball in his/her possession for as long as possible. Therefore the games in this program were designed to satisfy a young player’s need to possess the ball for as long as possible:

  • Dribbling Games
  • Passing, Receiving and Shooting Games
  • Tackling Games, taking the ball away from the opponent
  • 2v2 / 2v1 Competition Games

This program will provide children with a solid foundation and ready for more complex game situations.

Tips

At this age players should spend several hours a week during their free time juggling with different sized balls until they learn to control and manupulate the ball in all possible situations.
